Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When we first made the Prelim, we were unsure of how exactly iMovie worked as an editing software, so when editing our final film, we had a lot of work to do to edit our final film smoothly. It was a very easy software to get the hang of and by the end of our editing sessions we were able to use it proficiently and our editing has improved since our prelim.
We also learnt about the importance that titles have in films, and how they can help with the overall feel of the film. In our preliminary task, we just added the titles over the action, and it didn't really add anything to the feeling of the film, but in our final piece we took a lot of time researching titles from media of the same genre, and added our title credits at specific points to correspond with the music to create an impact. We also learned that there is an order to which the credits should go in, with creators first and then actors, and they couldn't really go in any random order.
We also used sound and music in our final piece to add more of an impact to the end product and could put emphasis on certain moments of the whole piece and adds sense of ambience - for example, we added an echoing noise when the shadow passes by in front of the screen to add a more ominous feel to the whole scene.
Our filming composition also developed a lot, and we were able to do things like framing and specific cut ins and more interesting types of shots i.e the over the shoulder shot we used in the final part of our film.
We also learned about the importance of lighting and white balance, which we altered to fit the mood of our final film. We used a Fluorescent white balance which added a bluish hue to everything, adding to the bleak feeling.
We have improved a lot in all areas of producing a film, and our final film really shows our progress.
