How did you attract/address your audience?

As we were developing the idea for our film we did a questionnaire so we could see what our audience might prefer in a film and allowed that to encourage the direction the film opening was going to take. People didn't really care about the gender of the main character, so we picked a

female lead - a lot of protagonists in horror films are female. For example, Edith in Crimson Peak or Rose from Silent Hill. Because female protagonists are more common, we thought they would be more familiar to the audience as they're
more used to seeing girls in the lead roles. Also, the majority of the people who answered our audience survey were girls, so it would probably more likely appeal to them to see a girl in the lead role as well.
A lot of people who go see horror films are also teenagers themselves and are usually younger, so that was why we decided to pick a young teenage girl to play our lead. Also because Erika is only about fourteen, she is young, and so it adds to her sense of vulnerability and makes the audience fear for her more.
People also responded that they would like a dog in the film (75% of our audience feedback told us that) so we feel like Timmy as a character within the film would add to the appeal of the film.
