Synposis

A young girl, having run away from home, has found refuge in an abandoned building with her dog Timothy. She didn't have much time to explore before the sun came up, so when she wakes up the next morning she decides to explore her temporary new home. It's very dark, and Jess has a worrying feeling that she's not alone.

Timothy's suddenly at the door, although she swears she tied him up. As she investigates the untied rope, the ball he had suddenly rolls out from another room. Scared, Jess goes to investigate. Then she hears somebody behind her.

Film Script

WORKING TITLE: Inside

First Draft

Establishing shot

WIDE SHOT of an abandoned building. In the middle of the shot there is a small huddle, and in the middle of the huddle is a young girl, JESS, asleep in her sleeping bag. Around her is her survival equipment - a large backpack, a small camping stove, ect. There is a moment of silence, before her dog, TIMOTHY, patters into the shot, sniffing Jess' face.

CLOSE UP

Timothy licks Jess' face, and after a moment, Jess wakes up startled. She affectionately pushes the dog away, petting him.

MID-SHOT

This only shows the wall behind Jess - which is covered in graffiti and grim from years of disuse. After a moment, she sits up, filling the shot.

CLOSE UP

Of Jess' hands as she heats up the camp stove, placing a can on top of it.

WIDE SHOT

Jess sits on her sleeping bag, still in the clothes she slept in. She eats sleepily. Timothy sits next to her, eating out of his own bowl.

WIDE SHOT

Of Jess briefly packing her bag away, and putting a coat on.

WIDE SHOT

An open door is shown in the middle of the shot, with Jess walking towards it as she puts her backpack on. Timothy walks beside her.

MID-SHOT

Jess ties Timothy up to a post. Timothy whines, and Jess reassures him, petting the dog again. She takes a tennis ball out of her bag, in front of the dog giving him something to play with.

CLOSE UP

Jess walks away from the dog, towards another part of the building.

TRACKING SHOT

Jess climbing up one of the ladders on to the roof.

WIDE SHOT

Jess climbing on to the roof.

EXTREME WIDE SHOT

Jess sat on the edge of the roof watching the sun rise

EXTREME CLOSE UP

Jess' eyes as she watches the sun.

MID-SHOT

Jess peaks in through one of the doors, looking nervous.

WIDE SHOT

It's dark inside the room.

MID-SHOT

She switches her torch on, walking into the room.

WIDE SHOT

Jess walks with her back to the camera, pointing her torch at some of the unsettling graffiti.

MID-SHOT

Jess reads some of the writing.

WIDE SHOT

(Same as prior wide shot) Watch Jess for a moment, before a dark figure flashes across the foreground.

MID-SHOT

Jess turns around at the sound of someone behind her.

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT

Jess points her torch around the room, trying to find the source of the sound.

CLOSE UP

She frowns, unnerves by the noise.

There is a bark, and she gasps, turning around.

MATCH ON MATCH ACTION

Jess turns over her shoulder, looking out for what made the noise.

WIDE SHOT

Timothy stands at the door, barking.

CLOSE UP

Jess sighs with relief, walking towards the door.

MID-SHOT

She bends down to fluff the dog's ears, and she cuddles the dog with some relief. And then she pauses.

JESS: But I thought you were tied up?

Jess stands up, frowning again, as she walks past the camera.

MID-SHOT

Focus is on the untied rope hanging in the wind, focus shifts as Jess crouches and she inspects the rope.

JESS: Guess I didn't tie you up tight enough, hey?

MID-SHOT

Jess fluffs the dog again, thankful for some distraction.

JESS: Where's your ball, then? Where's your ball, Timmy?

Behind Jess, there is a noise, and both her and the dog turn to look at it.

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT

Jess watches as the tennis ball rolls out from behind the wall.

CLOSE UP

Ball comes slowly to a stop.

LOW ANGLE SHOT

Jess walks up to the ball, considering it. There's a moment before she picks it up. Timothy follows faithfully.

CLOSE UP

Jess frowns at the ball, before looking up towards the left.

EYE LINE MATCH

There is nothing behind the wall, except for a door.

WIDE SHOT

Jess breaths out slowly, gathering up her courage before she goes in.

WIDE SHOT

Jess steps into the room.

CLOSE UP

Focus is on tripping water, before redirected to Jess as she steps in.

WIDE SHOT

Follows behind Jess as she walks into the room, she's breathing fairly heavily.

CLOSE UP

Of Jess' face as she looks around

WIDE SHOT

Jess hears a sudden crash and is startled, falling over.

CUT IN

The torch rolls away

MID-SHOT

Jess looks out, shocked. Slowly, a thick black liquid drips down onto her face. She touches her hand to her face, looking at her fingers.

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT

Jess looks at the sludge on his fingers.

MID-SHOT

She looks up

HIGH ANGEL SHOT (WIDE SHOT)

Jess looks up at something dripping above her. Slowly behind her, two feet approach from behind her. Jess slowly looks behind her.

Darkness.
